Gio Linh Blind Association Workshop
Born with disadvantages, the Blind feel low self-esteem and unconfident when they have to depend on their families in term of daily tasks and economic situations. It is known that as a disability, blindness leads to unemployment, which leads to loss of income, higher levels of poverty and hunger and low standards of living. So it’s very important to have a place for the Blind to come for working and sharing their stories with the people in common situation.

Located in few miles north of Quang Tri Province, Gio Linh Blind Association is the common house for 489 Blind and/or visually impaired in the district. This is the place where they hold collective activities for the Blind and it is the working place for the Blind in working age. They produce incense, toothpicks, brooms and they provide massage services.

However, the current facility is in an old office Section of Gio Linh People’s Committee. It was handed over to the Blind Association in 1990. Their current facility is in a seriously degraded state, forcing them to only use 2 rooms with total areas about twenty (20) square meters.

In their current working area, there are no toilet facilities which makes it very inconvenient for daily activities especially for the Blind. There is an extremely urgent need to have a new workshop area for the Blind with enough space working area to perform their daily tasks, and to provide a new toilet and kitchen.
